Crowne Plaza Palo Alto, Palo Alto, CA
January 7-9, 2025
Optelos will be exhibiting and speaking at the EPRI AI/DX Electric Power Summit at the Crowne Plaza Palo Alto in Palo Alto, CA January 7-9, 2025. Co-sponsored by the Stanford Energy Bits and Watts Initiative, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Transformation (DX) Electric Power Summit will bring together AI and Digital Transformation industry stakeholders to identify use cases, support development and adoption, and enable deployment of AI and DX solutions for the energy industry.
We will be presenting insights and learnings from our case study covering Optelos customer ComEd at the event, “ComEd Case Study: Automating grid analytics through drone inspection and AI”. This presentation will provide an overview of how utilities can use drones, vehicle-based camera systems and mobile devices for image capture with AI processing for automated defect detection to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their asset inspection programs. This digital transformation initiative is projected to improve maintenance efficiencies and provide ComEd with deeper, real-time insights into the state of health of all distribution assets.

Title: ComEd Case Study: Automating grid analytics through drone inspection and AI
Date: Wednesday, January 8, 2025
Time: TBD
Room: TBD
Session Description:
ComEd launched the Advanced Image Analytics program in 2022 to build a more effective and proactive maintenance program. This human + machine approach leverages the latest visual data technologies and AI-powered analytics to create a more resilient and reliable grid by identifying asset defects more accurately and quickly. By utilizing drones for image capture combined with AI processing for automated defect detection, the program is projected to improve maintenance efficiencies and provide ComEd with deeper, near real-time insights into the state of health of all distribution assets.
This presentation covers the program elements and lessons learned, which includes asset inspection through drone data capture, automated image upload and assignment to the correct asset, AI processing of inspection imagery to automate defect detection, and additional use cases for the captured asset data to improve operational performance and customer service.
Utilities can utilize drone data capture with AI images analytics to automatically classify and identify defect conditions on distribution assets to deliver long term improvements to grid reliability and resiliency.
Optelos will also be exhibiting in the Vendor Fair and demonstrating the capabilities of the Optelos platform. Optelos has worked with utilities and leading VARs globally to implement inspection automation programs, manage asset inspection data and develop and implement automated AI classification and defect detection programs. Please drop by and see us at the show for a quick demonstration and meet our team members and allow us to answer your questions.
